The Mirror reports that Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is most likely to replace the allegedly Man City-bound Wayne Rooney, but the transfer would depend on Man City striker Edin Dzeko first making a £20m move to join Dortmund.
It is reported that Dzeko’s move will hold the key to the English striker’s exit from the United camp as the exit of the Bosnian will pave the way for Rooney to join rivals Manchester City.
Dzeko’s transfer is almost a certainty now as City boss Roberto Mancini has plans to make some changes in his squad.
Sir Alex Ferguson had set his sights on Lewandowski long before and even attempted to buy him last summer, but Dortmund were not ready to let their star striker leave.
Lewandowski scored more than 30 goals last season, helping his side win the Bundesliga and the German Cup. But since his contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side has only one year left on it, United will be able to sign him relatively cheaply.
